Fish are the primary income source in Water You Doing?. Understanding which fish are where, what they are worth, and how to catch rare species will dramatically improve your coin earnings per voyage. This guide documents every known fish species, their rarity tier, approximate coin values, and the zones where they appear.

How Fish Spawn

Fish are not randomly placed in the world — they appear in specific zones and follow movement patterns. Open water has common species, near-dock areas have uncommon species, and hidden off-route zones have rare species. The key to maximising profit is knowing which zones have the most valuable catches and prioritising fishing time there.

Fish also respond to your fishing rod’s quality. Upgraded rods attract more fish and increase the chance of rare species appearing near your hook.

Fish Rarity Tiers

Common (5–15 coins)

Common fish are found everywhere and make up the bulk of your income. They are easy to catch and appear frequently.

• Silver Shoal — Most common catch in open water. 5–8 coins. Appears everywhere.
• River Bass — Slightly more valuable common fish. 10–12 coins. Found near river mouths and calm water.
• Mud Carp — Common in shallow, murky areas. 8–12 coins.

Uncommon (20–50 coins)

Uncommon fish require slightly more skill to catch and are found near docks and in specific biomes.

• Golden Perch — 25–35 coins. Found near dock areas and harbour zones.
• Crimson Snapper — 30–40 coins. Appears in warmer water zones.
• Bluefin Tuna — 35–50 coins. Larger fish, requires more reeling skill. Found in open water.

Rare (100–300 coins)

Rare fish are the high-value targets that make fishing expeditions worthwhile. They appear in hidden zones and off the beaten path.

• Phantom Eel — 100–150 coins. Elusive, appears in dark underwater caves.
• Sunset Koi — 150–200 coins. Found only in hidden lagoon zones.
• Abyssal Fang — 200–300 coins. The rarest confirmed catch. Found in deep water beyond the main map.

Special: Golden Fish (Cannot be sold)

Where to Fish for Maximum Profit

The most profitable fishing strategy is to find hidden zones off the main route to Nurwa and fish there. These zones have:

• Higher concentration of uncommon and rare species.
• More floating debris for gathering resources.
• Additional environmental loot not found on the main path.

The trade-off is that off-route zones may have more hazards. You need to balance the profit opportunity against the risk of navigating unfamiliar waters.

Fishing Technique by Species

Different species require slightly different approaches:

• Fast-moving fish (Tuna, Eel) — Use the tension minigame carefully. These fish pull the line fast. Reel in bursts rather than continuously.
• Bottom-dwelling fish (Carp, Bass) — Let them run to the bottom before starting the reel. They are slower but require more line management.
• Rare fish (Koi, Fang) — Be patient. Rare fish take longer to catch and are more likely to escape if you rush. Take your time with the minigame.

Fish Selling Strategy

Always sell fish at the highest-paying dock available. Different docks offer different rates, and a short detour to a better-paying dock can mean 20–30% more coins per sale. Check at least two docks before selling a large catch.

Never sell your Golden Fish. Even if you need coins, the value of a Golden Fish in a co-op emergency is far higher than its potential coin equivalent.
